WHY HYDRATE?

One of the simplest forms of self-care is to hydrate. Sounds easy, right? Not always.

Hydration is a fundamental aspect of human physiology. Approximately 60% of the human body is composed of water, and its proper balance is essential for numerous bodily functions. Water is involved in nutrient transportation, temperature regulation, waste elimination, joint lubrication, maintaining organ function and so much more! Dehydration, on the other hand, can lead to a range of issues, including fatigue, impaired cognitive function, headaches, and digestive problems. I’m seeing a lot of this lately!

HYDRATION AND ACUPUNCTURE: A SYNERGISTIC APPROACH

  1. DETOXIFICATION:

Proper hydration plays a crucial role in detoxifying the body by supporting kidney and liver function. When these organs are well-hydrated, they can effectively filter and eliminate toxins from the body. Acupuncture can further aid in detoxification by promoting circulation and enhancing the body's natural ability to eliminate waste.

2. ENERGY FLOW:

Hydration is vital for maintaining a smooth flow of bodily fluids, including blood and lymph. When the body is well-hydrated, it enhances the effectiveness of your acupuncture treatments!

3. PAIN RELIEF:

Acupuncture is renowned for its ability to alleviate pain. When combined with proper hydration, the body's natural pain-relieving mechanisms, such as improved blood circulation and reduced inflammation, are further supported.

4. STRESS REDUCTION:

Staying hydrated can help regulate cortisol levels, the hormone responsible for the body's stress response. Acupuncture promotes the release of endorphins, the body's natural "feel-good" chemicals, leading to relaxation and a sense of well-being.  Also, taking in a glass of water is a great excuse to hit the pause button for stress!

5. ENHANCED IMMUNE FUNCTION:

Hydration is essential for maintaining a robust immune system, as water supports the production and circulation of immune cells. Acupuncture has been suggested to modulate the immune response, potentially boosting its effectiveness.

Embracing this holistic approach can empower individuals to take charge of their well-being and embark on a journey towards a healthier and more balanced life.

If you have any symptoms of dehydration, especially as our temperatures are rising, acupuncture can help bring you back to balance.

I also suggest getting an electrolyte powder such as Emergen-C or Nuun to put into a glass of water every day.  Make sure to drink half your body weight in ounces for proper hydration and keep coffee and sodas to a minimum as these can be dehydrating.
